This is what I wrote some years ago, and the beginning stays pretty much the same (can we change our past??): I chose German as my college major and Russian as my minor, having been inspired in high school by my German teacher, Mrs Eleanor Duncan. I taught primarily German (but also Russian while at Cal State, San Bernardino) in the late '60's and 70's until switching careers to work for the federal government in Portland at the Bonneville Power Administration. I retired from BPA in 1999 and after my wife Helena also retired from the same agency in 2001 (even the same building I worked in!), we formed a duo called "Great House of Music". I play the accordion and Helena sings and dances. We perform in various places around Portland -- vaudeville shows, independent living facilities, libraries, etc. We will even be doing performances in Prague and in Germany in spring 2018. You can see that I have had three careers (and am still in the last one).

I guess the main thing now is that we're proud of our latest CD which is called Originals from Prague #5 -- Potpourri. We think it is the best one so far. It is the latest in the "originals" series and has several internationally known artists performing my compositions. There is also a famous choir singing three pieces sung in St. Clement's Church in Prague. Like all of our CDs, all of the selections were recorded in Prague. (see www.cdbaby.com to hear clips) Maybe you know Helena is Czech and was born and raised in that city, where we go each spring for several weeks.

I really hope there will be a reunion sometime in the next few years. I already noticed someone in our class roster who wasn't at the 50th reunion. I hope he will be there at the next one.

School Story:

No particular school story, just lots of good memories of Mrs. Eleanor Duncan and the German classes. Her great teaching inspired me to major in German, first at Oregon State U., then at Stanford and then at UC Berkeley. Because of my interest in German, I enrolled at the University of Hamburg, Germany in 1968 for a year where I met my future wife, Helena. I rented an accordion and with her singing, we performed music there for several months at an international cafe. That was the best year of my life!
