When we were in eighth grade at Cedar Hills Elementary, Jack was our paper deliverer on Tremont Street. One day he came to the door to cellect his fee. I gave him some money from Dad's desktop. When Dad got home, he realized that I had given away his "lucky dollar," something from the War. He called Jack and asked if he could have the dollar back. Of course Jack said "yes," and the echange was made. I've always remembered what a good guy Jack was.  The life and family he made were admirable. and his courage was exemplary. I'm sorry he has gone.

Thank you for sharing that Diane.  Yes, Jack was a classy guy.

Jack was my best friend in high school and we continued our friendship as fraternity brothers in college.  He was in my wedding and I was in his.  Jack was also godfather to my son, Chris.  We had many "adventures" growing up and continued such behavior in the years that followed while attending Ducks football games together and when he came to Portland to visit or when I visited Palm Desert.  We last got together less than a year ago. Jack will be greatly missed, but I have many great memories to fall back on!
