Married Jackie in 1965. She's a nurse, and has specialized in hospice work, now retired from serving as patient care coordinator of Benton Hospice Services and a term as president of the Oregon Hospice Association.

Completed my BS and MS degrees at Oregon State University. Spent 2 years at Michigan State, received Ph.D. Next 20 years in Missoula, MT as a researcher for the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station. Spent about 5 years living and working in Australia (2+ years in early '80s in Canberra teaching at the University, 2+ years in Sydney in late '80s on a split appointment with University of Technology, Sydney and with the New South Wales National Parks & Wildlife Service. Returned to Corvallis in '87 for 6 years at OSU, then moved to the Pacific Northwest Station for 10 years before retiring. Also had the opportunity to serve for 7 years as an adviser to a national forestry research commission in Canada.

Reading this over, the main impression I get is that I apparently had a hard time holding a job.

Since retiring, have lived on the Oregon coast in Seal Rock, 7 miles south of Newport. Have done a bit of consulting here and there. Just finishing up a 2 year term as President of the Friends of Yaquina Lighthouses (a local "friends" group" supporting protection and preservation of the 2 Newport-area lighthouses (Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head). Also serve on the Board of the Lincoln County Food Share.

Enjoy reading, garden work (endless here on the coast), traveling. Enjoy wine, sarcasm, and skepticism. Did several years of sea kayaking in SE Alaska, explored some new routes, got very wet, had to face off with brown bears a few times, but returned intact. Continue to do some flat water kayaking, spend a lot of time wandering around the beach looking for doubloons (have yet to find my first one). I've developed a major interest in the blues, both listening to it (I have a large collection of recordings, especially early Delta and Chicago blues) and in the written history of the fascinating lives of early performers. But I have to also point out that my musical skills stop at playing the radio/CD player.

I was very fortunate in my work in having the opportunity to travel pretty much all around the world. Enjoyed everything I did, everywhere we lived, although I have to confess that the best view of Lansing, MI, where I did graduate work, was in the rear view mirror.

Great to hear from you. Like Mark, I had lost contact with you. I had forgot we have the same birthday, so a belated happy birthday greetings for #73. We are in Newport, retired here in 2006. Life is good!
